What Is An Exposed Junction?

Exposed Junctions are a type of thermocouple measuring junction. In an exposed junction the two thermocouple conductors are joined to form the measuring junction and are exposed outside of the thermocouple sheath

This type of junction gives a very rapid response time to temperature, but it is unprotected from damage or attack. Exposed junctions are best suited in applications where the fastest response possible is required and there is a low risk (or consequence) of damage to the sensors measuring point.
